Barnabas Connection hits 15 years
UMC’s Barnabas Connection celebrated its fifteen year anniversary. Barnabas’ Executive Director Tracy Sommers cut the ribbon to officially open the festivities. The nonprofit helps those in need in the community no matter what the circumstances.
They provide health and human services, advocacy with local utility providers and county and government services with direct financial assistance to their clients. “The open line (for help), our Back to School Fiesta and the Christmas store couldn’t be without our volunteers and the support of the community,” Barnabas Board President Susan Myers said.
The Barnabas Connection implemented their services on June 1, 2004, and volunteers began answering calls on the phone in August of that year. Since then they have grown and are located in a building off Old Kyle Road away from the UMC’s campus.
The Back to School Fiesta provides returning students with backpacks and with school supplies, haircuts and clothes for the new school year. The Christmas Store helps lower income families have a special Christmas too, by providing family gifts at severely reduced prices.
