Starlight Symphony Orchestra performed a collection of works aimed to showcase the love of music on Sunday at Wimberley First Baptist Church. The orchestra’s “Sharing the Love of Music” performance featured works by Dvorak and Verdi. “Each piece was selected with the mindset of grandness, fondness, beauty, and the pure joy of sharing the love of music with friends,” the orchestra said. The Wimberley Pie Social is back! On Saturday, April 23, 11am-3 pm Wimberley Institute of Cultures (WIC) will be providing great fun selling pie by the slice and hot dogs as one of their best fund-raisers. The fun will take place at the Wimberley Valley Museum and the Community Center with live music by Erik Hakkanen and Will Webster. This year, rain or shine the Social will happen and just move indoors to the Community Center if it rains. Katherine Anne Porter School will host a Chefs Dinner Fundraiser April 9 at the Wimberley VFW Post 6441 from 6 pm. to 8:30 p.m. featuring four of Wimberley’s top restaurant chefs, with kitchen support from the student chefs in KAPS’ after school cooking program. Around 50 Keep Wimberley Beautiful and community volunteers walked the roadways of Wimberley as part of the Great American Clean Up on March 19. Approximately 150 large trash bags were filled. Wimberley Lions Club volunteers also managed a large item free drop off dumpster at Lions Field that was brought in by the city of Wimberley. An outstanding lineup of popular music makers take the three stages at Lions Field to help usher in the spring season in Wimberley. On the Pavilion Stage is the always popular Little Beverly and the Shades whose renditions of popular rock and roll classics will get you up on your feet and dancing. Their renditions of 50s and 60s classics is a perfect match for a beautiful spring day at Wimberley Market Day. On the Shady Grove Stage is the rock star and home-grown dynamo Lance Lipinsky whose versions of rock and roll hits never fails to please his audience. Born and raised in Wimberley, Lipinsky exhibits an energetic musical persona inspired from the past, carrying on the timeless tradition of mid-century Rock & Roll music. Phoenix Jordan plays the Hill Top Stage in a way that makes you happy and helps you enjoy Market Day. Doug is a young, high-spirited pup. He is always very excited to meet all the other residents at the refuge, and he loves to run and wrestle. Doug has been working on learning his doggy manners from some of the older dogs he’s been introduced to and he is an apt pupil and quick learner. He would love an active family. Doug a hound mix, is seven months old and weighs 36 pounds. WHS UIL academics now district champs
Wimberley High School students qualified for regionals in 23 individual spots at the District 28-4A UIL Academic Meet on March 25-26 in Wimberley. In addition, five teams placed first in the team competitions, qualifying them to compete at regionals as well. In all, WHS placed first at the meet, 96 points ahead of second-place Boerne HS, to win the Academic UIL District Championship. 03/31/2022 12:00 AM
