Lege gets to work in fourth special session
The Texas Legislature, conceived as a part-time body to meet every other year for 140 days, is now in its record fifth session (counting the regular session). When the impeachment trial of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is included, legislators have been in Austin pretty much the entire year, as the Texas Tribune noted. While legislators are paid just $7,200 a year in salary, per diem payments – meant to cover their expenses while in Austin – have mounted. If the fourth special session goes a full 30 days, taxpayers will have spent $4.8 million keeping lawmakers in Austin.

Veterans attend luncheon to mark Veterans Day
Hundreds of veterans and their families filled the Oldham-Cummings Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6441 to observe Veterans Day in Wimberley. A barbeque luncheon, organized by Veterans Day committee chair Mike Lukowiak, drew well over 300 people who savored the generous meal with other service members. “It was,” he said, “the largest Veterans Day observance at the post in recent years.”

New Event Center for Double J Ranch Golf Club
Demolition is nearly complete on the old clubhouse at the Woodcreek golf course to make way for a new event center. Purchased in April by Joe and Jennifer Gambino of Phoenix, the course is now called the Double J Ranch Golf Club. It was previously named Quicksand at Woodcreek Golf Club, although ownership had changed multiple times since it was built in 1973.

Halloween takes over the Square
The ghost, ghouls and goblins have headed back into their seasonal slumber but not before they swarmed across Wimberley. There were events across town all of Halloween weekend and into last week celebrating with children and adults alike donning the best costumes around. Many local organizations participated in Boo! Hole at Blue Hole on Saturday before every costumed creature in the valley showed up to the Wimberley Square on Tuesday, Oct. 31 for Halloween.

Lady Texans keep on winning
After a more than impressive season, the Wimberley Lady Texans found themselves 2nd in district with a 32-7 record good enough to give them a first round playoff game at home against the Gonzales Lady Apaches on Monday night.

Texans take on the Polar Bears in Austin
The Wimberley High School Texans (9-0) went to Austin to take on the Austin Achieve Polar Bears (2-7) Friday night. With a perfect regular season on the line The Texans didn’t play around for a second going up 42-0 at the end of the first quarter and taking the game 70-6 at the final horn finishing the season 10-0.

Nuncrackers: a hilarious, holiday musical extravaganza
The Little Sisters of Hoboken are back on The Wimberley Players stage to bring you Nuncrackers, the Christmas themed sequel in the Nunsense series written by Dan Goggins, opening on Nov. 17 and running weekends through Dec. 10.
