Texan Swim Team competes at district 14-4A meet
The Wimberley HS swim team traveled to San Antonio on January 19th for the District 14-4A Championship meet. This year WHS only fielded a girls team and competed against swimmers from Comal Davenport, La Grange, Comal Canyon Lake, and Hallettsville. Despite having no seniors on the team, the girls competed admirably, finishing second in the team standings and qualifying for regionals in seven individual slots and three relays. The Hill Country Community Band will present their first concert of the year, “Feste Italiana”, on February 18 at 4 p.m., at the First Baptist Church in Wimberley. Directed by Dr. Manuel Arambula, this free and family-friendly program will include “some Italian blockbusters” such as “The Pines of Rome” by Ottorino Respighi, and transcribed by Guy M. Duker, “Nessum Dorma”, an aria from the final act of Puccini’s opera Turandot and one of the best-known tenor arias in all opera, and “Florentiner March”, an Italian Grand March, by Julius Fucik, Op.214, and edited by John R. Have you ever wanted to be a citizen-scientist? If so, you have a great opportunity this month with the Great Backyard Bird Count. The GBBC is a fun, free and easy way to collect data that will give scientists at the Audubon Society and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology an idea of how birds are faring in our beautiful Wimberley and how they might be helped and protected.
