City finalizes payments for Oak Drive improvements
The city of Wimberley finalized the different funding mechanisms the city is using to pay for the multifaceted improvement project on Oak Drive. The total cost of construction of the project is $895,995.65 in addition to the original $475,000 cost to purchase the property.

Snapshot of the HILL COUNTRY
The Hill Country Alliance, a nonprofit organization to raise awareness of the Central Texas Hill Country, is now hosting its 16th annual photo contest. This year’s Hill Country Photo Contest, entitled “Snapshot of the Hill Country,” challenges photographers to share their view of the fragile resources, growing communities and scenery of the Texas Hill Country. The contest is open to entries from now until May 31. Photographers of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate. Photos can be submitted online by visiting HCA’s website: hillcountryalliance.org/PhotoContest. Winners will receive cash prizes and their photos will appear in HCA’s 2023 Calendar. WHS UIL academics now district champs
Wimberley High School students qualified for regionals in 23 individual spots at the District 28-4A UIL Academic Meet on March 25-26 in Wimberley. In addition, five teams placed first in the team competitions, qualifying them to compete at regionals as well. In all, WHS placed first at the meet, 96 points ahead of second-place Boerne HS, to win the Academic UIL District Championship.

Threat of wildfires grows over Hays County
Large areas of land across Texas remain at risk of wildfire, thanks to worsening drought conditions across the state. Currently, over 90% of Hays County is categorized as “abnormally dry,” according to the National Integrated Drought Information System.

WIC’s Wimberley Pie Social is back
The Wimberley Pie Social is back! On Saturday, April 23, 11am-3 pm Wimberley Institute of Cultures (WIC) will be providing great fun selling pie by the slice and hot dogs as one of their best fund-raisers. The fun will take place at the Wimberley Valley Museum and the Community Center with live music by Erik Hakkanen and Will Webster. This year, rain or shine the Social will happen and just move indoors to the Community Center if it rains. To start the festivities, KWVH 94.3 Radio is doing a live broadcast from 11-1pm.

The Wimberley Valley Chamber of Commerce announced the business and nonprofit of the year awards. A Studio Z was named the Business of the Year and the KWVH Wimberley Valley Radio was named the Nonprofit of the Year.

The Hill Country Community Band travels ‘Around the World with Music’
With the theme of “Around the World with Music,” the Hill Country Community Band will present musical selections from many parts of the globe, including the continents of Europe, South America, Asia, and Africa. The first of a series of two, this concert will present a “trip around the world” with music that evokes the sights and sounds of faraway places!
