Early voting in the May 24 primary runoff elections ends Friday, May 20. Under state law, voters who cast ballots in either party’s primary election must vote only in the same party’s runoff election. Here’s a little side note on the Wimberley Ace Hardware anniversary story. Back when the North Hays County EMS was first formed we had no place to keep our single ambulance. John and Gay Kingrey , both EMT’s in the newly formed service, graciously allowed us to use a section of the Discount parking lot for park ing the ambulance (and first responder vehicles during EMS runs). The Discount was the central rallying point for the ambulance crew until we eventually moved into the old fire station on Emergency Lane. 05/19/2022 12:00 AM

One of the main items I evaluate is experience. I’ve found that elected official experience is extremely helpful in working through the governmental process. A little help on River Road please

Anyone that lives, drives , bikes or walks on River Road knows that there are a lot more people that go 45-50mph than go 25mph which is the posted speed limit. Twenty-five does seem slow but there is a reason that it is set at this limit. From where you turn onto River Road ( just past the Sugar Shack) until you get to the stop sign at Wayside, it is almost exactly one mile. There are no sidewalks and in some areas very little shoulder to walk. In fact, in that one mile stretch, there is the blind curve on the hill past Creekside and the single lane bridge crossing Wilson Creek where there is no room beside the road whatsoever. 05/05/2022 12:00 AM

The letter to the editor from last week, April 14th, really spoke to many resident’s hearts. We are all very concerned about the projected growth in our beautiful, peaceful neighborhood. And the fire really put the fear of God in all of us. There are many more clear cut acres in Woodcreek North with atleast 8-10 inches of cedar mulch as far as the eye can see. It is another fire waiting to happen especially being in a severe drought and the burn ban which will go on for months. I have spoken to the local fire department and have been told there is really nothing they can do about forcing the developers to atleast remove the acres and acres of clear cut cedar. They own the land and we have no say in how they treat it. I must say, all the fire departments involved did an amazing job getting the fire out and monitoring it for days afterwards. I own 3 vacation rental homes in Wimberley. I just looked online at the Hays County Appraisal Districts website showing that one home is going up 20% while the 2nd is going up 50% and the third 63%. I understand that values are going up. 20% is bad enough but 50% and 63% is theft.
