Pedernales Electric Cooperative partnered with Hays County for a Local Government Day with the PEC 2026 Youth Tour delegates. Area high school students were able to see, experience and engage with local government to learn about the vast impact that government has on daily lives.

The students heard a brief overview of County Government and its role from the Deputy County Administrator and met with Judge Becerra to learn about his roles and responsibilities. The delegates met with and learned the roles and many responsibilities of the Elections Department, Parks and Natural Resources, the Health Department and the Emergency Management Department.

“An engaged and informed community benefits us all. Thank you, PEC, for investing in our youth and helping inspire the next generation of civic leaders,” said Judge Becerra.

The Hays County Local Government Day was a prelude to an all-expenses-paid, week-long trip for PEC youth delegates to Washington, D.C. June 14 to 22. The local students joined more than 1,500 other student leaders from electric cooperatives across the country to see major historical sites and landmarks and have the opportunity to meet elected officials while watching the U.S. government in action.
