Letter to the Editor

As a property owner in Woodcreek since 1994 and a full-time resident since 1997, I have witnessed many changes in our small city. In recent years, City staff and the elected City Council have completed a number of important projects that have improved the quality of life for residents. These accomplishments include much-needed road improvements, new parks and playgrounds, an online permitting system, traffic-control measures, a helpful community newsletter, and popular events such as Woodcreek Day at CYJ and the Fourth of July Parade.

The progress continues. One long-awaited project — the improvement of the western portion of Woodcreek Drive east of the low-water crossing — is scheduled to begin this fall. In addition, City Council and staff are working closely with Wimberley and Hays County to address one of the most important challenges facing our valley: the long-term sustainability of our water resources.

These achievements do not happen on their own. They require countless hours of effort from dedicated volunteers, City Council members, and staff. Our mayor, in particular, devotes an extraordinary amount of time to serving the community, often working more than 40 hours a week in a volunteer capacity.

For that reason, I am disappointed by some of the personal attacks and negative rhetoric that have recently appeared in public discussions. Healthy debate is essential, and reasonable people will disagree on policy decisions. However, productive conversations are built on facts, respect, and a shared commitment to improving our community.

Before posting a comment or speaking critically of others, I encourage all of us to consider whether our words are constructive, accurate, and respectful. We can disagree without being disagreeable. By focusing on issues rather than individuals, we can preserve the friendly, welcoming spirit that makes Woodcreek such a special place to live.

Let us continue working together to build a community that values both civic engagement and mutual respect.
