Wimberley’s historic season continued on as the Texans defeated the Ingleside Mustangs in Game 3 to capture their first ever regional championship.
The Texans improved to 29-8-2 for the season while Ingleside concluded their season.
In the first game of the series, Ansley Davis put the Texans on the board with a two-run RBI triple to put Wimberley up 2-0 over the Mustangs.
Davis’ triple proved to be the difference maker as the Texans took Game 1 at 2-0.
Charlotte Woodard pitched a complete game shutout, allowing seven hits, one walk and striking out four batters.
In Game 2, Ingleside evened the series at 1-1, scoring four runs in the bottom of the third to win 4-0 and force Game 3.
Going into Game 3, the Texans and the Mustangs battled to a scoreless game going into the seventh inning.
After keeping the Mustangs off the scoreboard, the Texans looked to clinch the title in the bottom of the seventh.
Reagan Kenley drew a leadoff walk before moving to second on a sacrifice bunt from Peyton Wharton.
Morgan Smith drew another walk before Grace Strobel loaded up the bases with a walk of her own.
With Jewel Lock coming up to the plate, the Texans looked to put across the game winning run.
Facing a 3-1 count, Lock drew the walk, scoring Kenley at third as the Texans won 1-0 to take the series.
Woodard pitched her second shutout of the series, allowing five hits, two walks and striking out one batter.
Wimberley advances to the state semifinal round for the first time in program history where the Texans will face the Liberty Panthers.
The Panthers are coming off a series win against the Salado Eagles to capture the Region III title.
