Local musicians are invited to be a part of the world Make Music Day in Wimberley on June 21. Started as “La Fête de la Musique” in France 1982, it is now a worldwide celebration of music that takes place in communities across the globe on the first day of summer. Last year was Wimberley's first year to participate with 20 artists performing in 11 venues around town. This year, the event will be held with the coordination of Wimberley Arts.
Held annually to coincide with the Summer Solstice, Make Music Day is taking place in more than 2,000 cities around the world. Designed to be flexible and fun, performances can be formal shows, student-led gatherings, casual pop-ups or anything in between.
The day-long, musical free-for-all celebrates music in all its forms, encouraging people to band together and play in free public concerts. This year, over 150 U.S. cities and the entire states of Connecticut, Hawaii, Missouri, North Carolina, Texas, Vermont, and Wisconsin will join in.
Musicians and venue owners may participate in the global event by performing or offering a performance space of any kind. To get involved, create a venue or artist profile on the Make Music Day matchmaking website, https://wimberley.makemusicday.org. The platform allows venues to list their available performance space and time slots, and musicians can request to play at specific locations. Simple to use, venue owners can easily connect with performers and build a lineup for the day.
Make Music Day is presented by The NAMM Foundation, the National Association of Music Merchants and coordinated by the nonprofit Make Music Alliance. For more information, visit makemusicday.org
