The Wimberley Lions Club will host its fourth community forum on May 5 at the Wimberley Community Center, featuring Hays County Parks Education Coordinator Katherine Sturdivant presenting “Balancing Conservation and Community.”

Sturdivant’s 6 p.m. talk will focus on Hays County’s expanding parks system, including the county’s purchase and development of land for two new parks — among them the former Boy Scout camp property off Devil’s Backbone, now being transformed into a major new nature preserve called Sentinel Park Preserve. She will also provide a broader overview of the county’s existing parks, their features, and the challenges of managing natural spaces in one of the fastest-growing regions in Texas.

As Hays County continues to experience rapid population growth, local parks face increasing pressure from both rising demand and the need to protect fragile Hill Country ecosystems. Sturdivant will address how the county is working to balance public access with conservation, while planning for long-term sustainability.

Topics include: the vision and development plans for newly acquired parkland; the role of conservation in park design and operations; the benefits of parks to the community and local economy; and ongoing challenges, including funding, maintenance and environmental protection.

The Wimberley Lions Forum Series brings timely, relevant topics to the community with each forum featuring expert speakers addressing issues that impact the Wimberley area and Hays County as a whole.

The event is open to the public. The Community Center is located at 14068 RR12.
