Wimberley is back in the playoffs after the Texans swept the New Braunfels Long Creek Dragons in a two-game series. The Texans improved to 13-5-1 for the season and 8-0 in district play.

Wimberley started the week at home against the Dragons on Tuesday. Sage Hall put the Texans on the board first, hitting an RBI single in left to put Wimberley up 1-0 in the bottom of the first. Later, Gentry McGinnis connected with a two-run RBI double in the bottom of the fourth, extending the Texans lead to 3-0. In the bottom of the fifth, the Texans added on another run, scoring on a Long Creek error to go up 4-0. The Dragons scored their first run of the game in the top of the seventh but Long Creek was unable to complete the comeback as the Texans won 4-1. McGinnis earned the win, throwing five innings while allowing two hits, no earned runs, one walk and striking out seven batters. Dane Mignerey earned the save, throwing two innings to allow just two hits, no earned runs, two walks and striking out four batters.

The Texans looked to complete the sweep on Friday as Wimberley traveled to Long Creek. Later in the top of the third, Alex Abrusley connected with an RBI double in right field, extending the lead to 2-0. Alex Abrusley later scored on a passed ball before Jacob Abrusley scored on a dropped third strike, making it a 4-0 Texan lead. The Dragons answered back in the bottom of the third, scoring on an RBI double and a fielder’s choice to cut Wimberley’s lead down 4-2. McGinnis answered for the Texans in the top of the fifth, hitting a solo home run in left field to extend the lead to 5-2. Jayden Hall tacked on the final run for the Texans, stealing home plate as Wimberley went on to win 6-2. The Texans will now go for the district title, needing just one win as Wimberley battles rival Davenport.

The Wolves enter the final week of the regular season with a 13-6-2 overall record and a 7-1 district record, sitting in second place behind the Texans. Both teams have clinched the No. 1 seed in the playoffs with Davenport going into the 4A Division I bracket and Wimberley going into the 4A Division II bracket.
