As drought continues to reshape life across Texas, conversations about water conservation, resilience, and shared responsibility are more important than ever.
The Watershed Association’s series for Building Resilient Stewards will present a program April 25 at the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment in San Marcos. Called “Activating Stewardship: Strategies for the Future,” the session will explore rainwater harvesting, One Water principles and the evolving strategies that can help households and regions adapt during times of record drought.
The program will begin at 10:30 a.m. and continue until 1:30 p.m. The lecture is free to attend, but reservation is required by clicking the event calendar at watershedassociation.org/events/.
Insights from a statewide rainwater harvesting study will be discussed, including the manner in which different zip codes influence collection potential and long-term water security. An interactive water calculator will be shared to aid in the discussion of household water use during drought.
Participants will also hear perspectives on watershed planning, community-scale conservation and the human side of water stewardship from emerging professionals who are developing new approaches to stakeholder engagement, as well as regional leaders who are advancing collaborative solutions through the Blanco Cypress Watershed Protection Plan and growing One Water initiatives.
Key Speakers from the Meadows Center are Dr. Robert Mace, Executive Director; Jenna Walker, Director of Watershed Studies; and Desiree Jackson, Stakeholder Engagement Specialist.
The session will conclude with an option to join a glass-bottom boat tour or a guided walk through the Spring Lake wetlands to connect the day’s ideas back to the living systems that sustain the region. Tickets for the glass-bottom boat tour are available at the registration link by clicking the event calendar at watershedassociation.org/events/.
The Meadows Center is located 211 San Marcos Springs Dr. in San Marcos.
The next event in the Watershed Association’s Land.Water.Connection. series is Community Field Project: Drought-Proofing the Land with Pete Van Dyck, on May 30. For more information go to the watershedassociation.org.
