
Wimberley swept the rival Fredericksburg Battlin’ Billies in a two-game series, winning both games to stay undefeated in district play.
Wimberley improves to 14-6-1 for the season and 6-0 in district play.
The Texans scored first in the top of the first inning when Jacob Abrusley drew a bases loaded walk to put Wimberley up 1-0.
Later in the top of the second, Jayden Hall connected with an RBI single, extending the lead to 2-0.
Jake Dewell hit a three-run home run in the top of the third inning as the Texans took a 5-0 lead over the Billies.
Fredericksburg answered with a RBI double in the bottom of the third, cutting their deficit down to 5-1.
Wimberley picked up the offense again in the top of the fourth as Alex Abrusley hit a two-run RBI double. Sage Hall later scored on wild pitch from third while a sacrifice fly from Maverick Jacobs scored Alex Abrusley from third, making it a 9-1 lead.
The Texans scored on a Billies error in the top of the sixth before a bases-loaded walk by Alex Abrusley scored another run.
In the same at-bat the Texans scored two runs on a passed ball and a wild pitch as Wimberley took home the win at 13-1.
Gentry McGinnis earned the win, throwing four innings, allowing four hits, one earned run, one walk and striking out two batters.
Returning home Friday, the Texans looked to complete the sweep of the Billies.
After a scoreless first three innings, the Billies scored on a sacrifice bunt in the top of the fourth before scoring another run on an RBI single in the fifth to take a 2-0 lead over the Texans.
Following a Dewell double in the bottom of the fifth, the Texans had runners on second and third with two outs to bring McGinnis up to the plate who hit a two-run RBI single, tying the game at 2-2.
Wimberley added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth as Jacobs hit a two-out RBI single, giving the Texans a 3-2 lead going into the seventh inning.
The Billies were unable to tie the game as Wimberley sealed the 3-2 win.
Alex Abursley earned the win, throwing six innings while allowing just four hits, one earned run, three walks and three strikeouts. Jayden Hall earned the save, throwing one inning with two strikeouts.
Wimberley looks to wrap up their playoff berth this week as the Texans battle the New Braunfels Long Creek Dragons.
Long Creek enters the week with a 15-11-1 overall record and a 3-3 district record.
First pitch for Tuesday is set for 7 p.m. in Wimberley while first pitch for Friday is set for 7 p.m. in New Braunfels.
