Texans sweep Bandera

The Texans swept the Bandera Bulldogs in a two-game series, winning the first game 20-0, then winning the second game 7-3. 

Wimberley improves to 12-6-1 overall and 4-0 in district play. Bandera falls to 4-15-3 overall and 0-4 in district play. 

In the bottom of the first, the Texans loaded up the bases on three walks before Maverick Jacobs hit an RBI groundout to score Jayden Hall at third for the first run of the game. 

After Jacob Abrusley forced a walk to load up the bases, Carter Meeks cleared the bases with a three-run RBI single as Wimberley extended their lead to 4-0. Jake Dewell scored Meeks on an RBI single as the Texans ended the inning up 5-0. 

In the bottom of the second, Sage Hall connected with a two-run RBI triple before Alex Abrusley hit an RBI double to put Wimberley up 8-0. 

Alex Abrusley later scored on a passed ball before the bases were once again loaded up for the Wimberley offense. 

Dewell forced a bases-loaded walk before Gentry McGinnis hit into a groundout to score Jack Abrusley from third, making it a 11-0 lead. 

After a sacrifice fly by Jayden Hall, Sage Hall hit a two-run RBI triple, extending the lead. Alex Abrusley hit an RBI double before the bases were loaded up again. 

Jacob Abrusley was then hit by a pitch to score another run before Dewell hit a two-run RBI double. 

Jayden Hall added the final run of the inning with an RBI single as the Texans scored 14 runs in the bottom of the second and led 19-0. 

Jayden Gamez scored the final run of the game with an RBI groundout as Wimberley won 20-0. 

McGinnis earned the win on the mound, throwing three innings while allowing one hit, no earned runs, no walks and striking out three batters. 

In the second game of the week, the Texans found themselves trailing 3-1 going into the top of the fifth inning. 

Alex Abrusley cut into the deficit, hitting a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth to make it a 3-2 game. 

Later in the top of the sixth, the Texans tied the game on a fielder’s choice by McGinnis, scoring Meeks at third. 

Following McGinnis, Jayden Hall connected with an RBI triple in right, scoring McGinnis and giving the Texans their first lead at 4-3. 

Cannon Couch followed up Jayden Hall by hitting an inside-the-park home run, extending the lead to 6-3. 

Jacob Abrusley added the final run of the game, hitting an RBI single as Wimberley completed the sweep of Bandera winning 7-3. 

Wimberley will take on district rival Fredericksburg in a two-game series this week with the Battlin’ Billies trailing the Texans by one-game for first place. 

First pitch for Tuesday is set for 7 p.m. at Fredericksburg while first pitch for Friday is set for 7 p.m. at Wimberley.
