Wimberley splits district games as Texan offense lights up scoreboard

The Texans split their pair of district games last week, falling to Davenport in extra innings while rebounding to beat Canyon Lake 15-0.

Wimberley improves to 19-6-2 for the season and 4-2 in district play, tied with Fredericksburg for second place.

Wimberley started their week on the road against Davenport as the Texans looked to knock off the district leaders.

The Wolves struck first, scoring on a passed ball to take the early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

Wimberley answered back in the top of the second as Morgan Smith hit a solo home run, tying the game at 1-1.

The Texans power streak continued in the top of the third when Bailey Wright hit a three-run home run as Wimberley took their first lead of the game at 4-1.

The Wolves answered with a solo home run of their own in the bottom of the third but the Texan offense continued to pour it on in the top of the fourth.

Emorie Gahan hit an RBI triple before Wright hit her second home run of the game, as Wimberley led 7-2.

But the Wolves refused to give up. In the bottom of the fifth, Davenport scored five runs, tying the game at 7-7. Davenport looked to win it in the bottom of the seventh when the Texans set the Wolves down in order, to send the game into extras.

After the Texans were sat down in order in the eighth, Davenport scored the game winning run on a sacrifice fly to win 8-7.

Looking to bounce back, Wimberley returned home for the second round of district play, hosting arch-rival Canyon Lake.

The Texans started off hot in the bottom of the first as Ella Patek hit a two-run RBI triple to put Wimberley up 2-0.

Following Patek, Reagan Kenley hit a two-run home run to extend the lead. The Texans then scored again as Ansley Davis hit a three-run home run as Wimberley took a 7-0 lead.

After Kenley scored in the bottom of the second on a double steal attempt which led to a Canyon Lake error, the runs continued to pour in for Wimberley in the bottom of the third.

Gahan hit an RBI single before an RBI groundout by Wright scored two runs and extended the Texan lead to 11-0.

Wimberley finished Canyon Lake in the bottom of the fourth as Davis hit another three-run home run before Wright ended the game on an RBI single to make the final score 15-0.

Wimberley is back on the road Tuesday against Bandera before hosting Fredericksburg Friday with the winner taking sole possession of second place. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m.
