The Lady Texans are bound for Georgetown.
Looking to make a return trip to the state title game after falling short in penalty kicks the year before, Wimberley defeated the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks 2-0 in the state semifinals to punch its ticket to the championship game.
Wimberley improves to 24-2-1 for the season while Hardin-Jefferson finishes the season with a 16-10-2 overall record.
The Lady Texans jumped out on the Hawks, scoring two goals in the first half to lead 2-0 at halftime.
Despite Wimberley not scoring in the second half, the Lady Texans’ dominating defense kept Hardin-Jefferson off the scoreboard as the Hawks were unable to find the back of the net.
As the clock hit zero, the Lady Texans celebrated their 2-0 win.
Earlier in the week, Wimberley competed for the regional title against Corpus Christi London.
The Texans scored two goals in the first before adding another three in the second half. The Lady Texan defense was once again a stone wall as London was unable to find the back of the net, leading to Wimberley capturing the UIL Region IV Class 4A Division II title, winning 5-0.
It has been a commanding run for the Lady Texans during the playoffs, who have outscored their playoff opponents 28-0.
For the second time in program history, the Lady Texans will play for a state championship.
Wimberley played in the state championship game the season before, falling to Canyon Randall in penalty kicks in the Lady Texans’ inaugural appearance in the title game.
Standing in the way of Wimberley’s first ever state championship is the Sunnyvale Raiders.
The Raiders enter the title game with a 24-3-1 overall record, having captured the District 12 Class 4A championship.
Sunnyvale defeated Frisco Panther Creek 3-0 in bi-district before defeating Dallas Pinkston 10-0 in the area round. In regional semi-finals, the Raiders defeated Athens 5-1 before capturing the regional title against Aubrey 3-2.
In the state semifinals, Sunnyvale defeated Godley 2-1.
The title game will be a showcase between the best of the best with Sunnyvale’s offense entering the game averaging 5.03 goals per game while the Wimberley defense has held opposing offenses to an average of 1.92 goals per game.
On the flip side, Wimberley’s offense has averaged 4.62 goals per game while Sunnyvale’s defense has allowed an average of 1.86 goals per game.
