The Texans bounced back from a tough loss to the rival Fredericksburg Battlin’ Billies to end the week with a district win over the New Braunfels Long Creek Dragons, winning 8-4.
Wimberley improves to 18-5-2 for the season and 3-1 in district play.
In their game against Fredericksburg, the Texans scored in the top of the first on a Regan Kenley RBI single to lead 1-0.
But the Billies responded by scoring 11 unanswered runs en route to handing Wimberley their first district loss of the season at 11-1.
Wimberley returned home Friday looking to regroup as the Texans hosted Long Creek.
The Texans scored first on a RBI ground by Bailey Wright before Ella Patek scored on a Long Creek to put Wimberley up 2-0.
In the second inning, Wimberley scored on a double steal before Wright hit a two-run RBI single, extending the Texans lead to 5-0.
Long Creek answered in the top of the fourth, scoring on a RBI single and cutting their deficit down to 5-1.
The Texans answered with a another RBI single by Wright before Patek hit a two-run inside-the-park home run, putting the Texans up 8-1.
The Dragons scored three runs in the top of the seventh but were unable to complete the comeback as the Texans went on to win 8-4.
Wimberley is on the road Tuesday against Davenport before returning home Thursday against Canyon Lake to start the second round of district play. Both games are schedule for 7 p.m.
