Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6441 announced the local winners of its annual youth scholarship programs on Thursday, March 5, at the monthly post meeting. This year’s theme for both the Voice of Democracy and Patriot Pen contests was “How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country?”
Winners of the Voice of Democracy audio essay, open to students in grades nine through 12, were first place holder Quinn Jennings, who received a $ 2,000 scholarship. In second place was Carolina Manes who won a $1,500 scholarship and in third was Austin Sanchez, who took home a $1,000 scholarship.
Winners of the Patriot Pen patriotism essay, open to students in grades six through eight, were Sullivan Smith in first place, Hope Maline in second place and Rosie Zinkgraf in third. Smith received a $200 award, Malone took home a check for $150, and Zinkgraf received $100. In fourth place, was Tinley Williams who won a $50 award.
