On March 21, people living with ALS, family members, friends, caregivers, and others affected by the disease will gather at Willow Lake Watering Hole & Mercantile, 110 Old Kyle Rd., for the Ride to Defeat ALS Texas. The event offers a range of distances and activities, ensuring that everyone, regardless of age or ability, can ride to support the ALS community.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Over the course of the disease, people lose the ability to move, to speak and eventually, to breathe. The disease is always fatal, usually within five years of diagnosis. Few treatment options exist, resulting in a high unmet need for new therapies to address functional deficits and disease progression.
The ALS Association’s Ride to Defeat ALS is a one-day cycling event that generates the hope and action needed to make ALS a livable disease. Each ride brings together a diverse group of individuals and teams who are dedicated to taking the challenge for those who bravely fight ALS and to remember those lost to the disease.
All funds raised will provide help and hope for those living with ALS by supporting patient care, advocacy, and cutting-edge research to find treatments and a cure for this debilitating, always fatal disease. Riders must register in advance at als.org/RideTexas.
