The Wimberley View will hold a special anniversary reception to celebrate fifty years of telling the Wimberley story, on March 20, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Wimberley Village Library, 400 FM 2327.
Dr. Patrick Cox, whose family began The Wimberley View in March 1976 and who served as its first editor, will host the reception. Speakers include Regional Editor Dalton Sweat and Managing Editor Teresa Kendrick, who joined the newspaper in 2023. Special guests, mayors of Wimberley and Woodcreek and former and current writers and columnists will be on hand for the event.
The Wimberley View was founded by Wimberley residents Doris and Beven Varnon and Patrick Cox.
“In our inaugural edition, we promised to provide a community newspaper with a relentless search for what is interesting and meaningful,” Cox noted. This new publication would “reflect a wide range of interest, diversity, and good humor.”
From the beginning and for the past fifty years, The Wimberley View has provided content that is provocative, entertaining and accountable. “That is the legacy that we established for the View and continues to the present. As an advocate for community journalism, we want to continue the tradition of compelling, reliable and caring news and perspectives that reflect the spirit of Wimberley,” Dr. Cox stated.
An exhibition, “Fifty Years of Service to the Wimberley Community,” with photos, historic issues, awards and a video by Gale Wiley will be on display during the reception. The event is co-sponsored by the Wimberley View, the Wimberley Village Library and the Wimberley Literary Society.
“Fifty Years of Service to the Wimberley Community,” will remain on display in the library for several weeks following the reception.
