The historic season for the Wimberley Texan basketball team came to an end this past week at the regional finals, losing to La Marque 74-57

The Texans finish the season with a 36-3 overall record, the best in program history.

Wimberley started the week in the regional semifinals against the Brownsville Jubilee Titans.

It was a blowout win for the Texans who defeated the Titans 106-62.

Five Texan players finished the game scoring over 15 points with the duo senior Holden Crawford and junior Nathan Baker leading the way with 17 points. Senior Paul Gumbert-Mendoza was second in scoring with 16 points followed by juniors Harley Peacock and Camden Hopkins with 15 points each.

Gumbert-Mendoza led the team in rebounds with 15 along with 13 assists with complete the triple-double, a first in the Texans postseason history. Junior Reece Wortham also had 13 assists for the Texans.

Wimberley advanced to the regional finals for just the second time in program history where they Texans faced the No. 2 ranked team in the state the La Marque Panthers.

The Panthers and the Texans previously met in the regional finals last year where La Marque won.

This year, La Marque once again came out victorious as the Texans lost 74-57.

Gumbert-Mendoza led the team in scoring with 29 points followed by Wortham with 12 points.

The Wimberley senior class will go down as the decorated class in program history, winning a record six playoff games in a span of two years, reaching the regional finals for the first time in history along with the Texans first outright district championship in nearly a decade.
