80 Flags of Honor at VFW, March 8

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6441 will commemorate its 80th anniversary with a powerful community tribute and picnic, “80 Flags of Honor,” honoring veterans and active-duty service members while raising awareness of ongoing veteran needs. It will take place March 8, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Wimberley VFW Post #6441, 401 Jacob's Well Rd.

The event will feature a striking display of eighty American flags, each dedicated to a veteran or service member and sponsored by families and community members. The display symbolizes eighty years of service, sacrifice, and steadfast commitment to American values.

This field of flags represents real people - neighbors, parents, grandparents, and friends -who answered the call to serve. It’s a reminder that honoring veterans means remembering their service and continuing to support them long after the uniform comes off.

The family-friendly celebration will include a brief recognition ceremony, children’s activities, live music by The Kade Isakson Band, free food, and opportunities to learn about local veteran issues and programs. Proceeds will support the Post and Auxiliary’s ongoing efforts to serve veterans and their families in the Wimberley community and beyond.

Community members may sponsor a full-size, 3’ by 5’, dedication flag for $50 prior to the event, or dedicate a smaller flag on-site for $15. Each dedication includes the veteran’s name and service information. To sponsor a flag, visit vfw6441.com/80flagsofhonor.

Veteran-serving organizations are invited to apply for a free booth space. Availability is limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Booths must be for or by veterans. Apply at vfw6441.com/80 flags of honor.
