In January and February, the Allstars Dance Company from Studio W Dance Collective in Wimberley competed in the REVEL Dance Convention in San Marcos and the NRG Dance Project in Dallas. In both competitions the Allstars faced teams from Texas, Mexico and from across the United States.

Both three-day events combined intensive training with competitive performances. During both conventions, dancers trained with industry professionals in ballet, jazz, hip-hop, tap, lyrical, musical theatre, contemporary fusion, jazz-funk and ballroom.

At REVEL Dance Convention, the Allstars earned a Choreography Award for the full-company lyrical routine “Forever Young,” choreographed by Madeline McNew. Teen/Senior dancers also received the Studio Revelation Award for “Slow Motion,” a contemporary piece by Lynzee Walker. Aurora Harrison and Maddy McKenzie-Carter’s performance of “Body Language,” also by Lynzee Walker, earned ninth place overall and a Choreography Award.

Aurora Harrison was also named a REVEL Scholarship winner. Junior dancer Emma Holt received a Judge’s Special Award for her jazz solo, “I Slay,” choreographed by Alanna Bouvier, and was recognized as Elite Reveler Runner-Up.

At the NRG Dance Project in Dallas, the Allstars Dance Company earned multiple top placements across divisions.

First-place awards were received for “Drop” (Teen/Senior Hip Hop), choreographed by Lynzee Walker; “Body Language” (Jazz Duo), performed by Aurora Harrison and Maddy McKenzie-Carter; and “Superstitious” (Junior Musical Theatre Solo), performed by Alena Nelson.

Second-place category finishes were awarded to “Forever Young” (Full Company Lyrical); “Another One Bites the Dust” (Full Company Jazz); “Sweet Dreams” (Teen/Senior Jazz); “Black Tables” (Teen/Senior Contemporary Duo), performed by Ella Tracy and Jada Juarez; and “Level Up” (Junior Jazz Group).

A third-place in category award was earned by “Fort,” a Teen/Senior Jazz Solo performed by Maddy McKenzie-Carter.

The Allstars Dance Company is directed by Lowery Walker, owner and operator of Studio W Dance Collective, who leads the program’s competitive vision and training. Members of the Allstar Dance Company include Junior members Emma Holt, Alena Nelson, Evelyn Ginn, and Liv Hawkins, along with Teen/Senior members Aurora Harrison, Maddy McKenzie-Carter, EllaTracy, Lily Robertson, Jada Juarez and Macie Terrell.

The Allstars Dance Company will compete later this spring at “Elevation On Tour” in New Braunfels, March 27 to 29, and “Starpower” in Austin, April 17 to 19.
