Spring Cleaning with a Purpose: Fresh Starts for Our Homes and Our Hill Country

Spring has arrived in Wimberley, and with it comes the perfect opportunity to refresh our homes, yards, and community. At Keep Wimberley Beautiful, we believe spring cleaning is about more than tidying up—it’s a chance to care for the place we love.

As you declutter closets and garages, pause before tossing items in the trash. Many household goods, from cardboard and paper to plastics, metals, and glass, can be recycled properly. When we recycle right, we reduce landfill waste and conserve valuable resources. The next Spring Clean up event with free dumpsters and metal recycling will be on Saturday 11th April (from 8am - noon or FULL) at Lion’s Field. Add this to your calendar!

Even better, consider upcycling. Old jars can become storage containers, worn jeans can turn into garden kneepads, and wooden pallets can be transformed into planters or compost bins. Upcycling keeps useful materials in circulation while adding a creative, personal touch to your home and garden.

Spring is also the ideal time to get your yard ready for the growing season. Rake up fallen leaves and use them as mulch or add them to a compost pile instead of bagging them for disposal. Trim back native plants carefully, leaving seed heads when possible to support birds and pollinators. Before planting, consider native and drought-tolerant species that thrive in our Hill Country climate and require less water.

A cleaner home, a greener yard, and mindful waste habits all add up to a more beautiful Wimberley. This spring, let’s clean with intention, reuse with creativity, and grow with care—for ourselves, our neighbors, and the environment we share.
