Local leaders, project partners and community members gathered at Danforth Junior High School earlier this month to celebrate the completion of the RM 2325 Sidewalk Project, a pedestrian improvement connecting Danforth Junior High School, Wimberley High School, the Wimberley Village Library, nearby neighborhoods and local businesses along one of Wimberley’s most traveled corridors.
Speakers Hays County Precinct 3 Commissioner Morgan Hammer, Wimberley Mayor Jim Chiles and Wimberley ISD Superintendent Greg Bonewald gave remarks on the project’s success and its impact on the Wimberley community.
“This project directly reflects Hays County’s commitment to building safer, more accessible infrastructure for our residents,” said Commissioner Hammer. “These new sidewalks create critical connections for families, students and pedestrians who rely on this corridor every day.”
The RM 2325 Sidewalk Project includes a six-foot ADA-compliant sidewalk along the east side of Carney Lane, extending from Danforth Junior High School to RM 2325; an eight-foot sidewalk along the south side of RM 2325, widening the pedestrian routes as it approaches the Green Acres signalized intersection; a safer continuous connection to the crosswalk at Green Acres by replacing the dirt trail with a sidewalk; and a continuation of the sidewalk 325 feet east of Green Acres on the north side of RM 2325, where it ties into existing pedestrian facilities.
“Walkability is part of what makes Wimberley such a unique and welcoming place,” said Mayor Chiles. “We’re proud to see this investment come to life for our community.”
The sidewalk project represents a $1.7 million construction investment, funded through the Hays County Transportation Department and a state grant supporting project development and construction.
“Ensuring safe routes for our students is always a top priority,” said Superintendent Bonewald. “The new sidewalk provides enhanced protection and accessibility for the hundreds of students and families who travel near Danforth Junior High and Wimberley High School. We’re grateful to the County and City leadership for their investment in our future and to our students and families for their patience during construction.”
