Reading a path toward a nature trail and a better school

With a tangible goal of creating a nature trail for Blue Hole Primary students, the school’s Parent Teacher Organization will host its annual “Read-A-Thon 2026,” beginning February 20.

The event will join together students, families and the Wimberley community in a week of reading challenges and fundraising to fortify literacy and bring about campus improvements.

Utilizing new classroom books, additions to the Literacy Library, interactive tools like Novel Effect and Reading Horizons, all improvements from prior Read-A-Thons, the challenge will engage all of BHP’s 615 students.

This year, the PTO wants to raise enough money to create a quarter-mile nature trail and play area for students. Designed for movement, exploration and connection, the nature trail will include shaded walking paths and natural play elements.

According to PTO Read-A-Thon organizers, the nature trail will serve as a shared community space for classroom instruction, flexible learning and positive interactions with everyday heroes.

“This is truly a community-powered effort,” said Blue Hole Primary PTO President, Lauren Johnson. “Every donation, big or small, creates real opportunities for our students and helps us support a school environment where kids thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Plus, the kids love all the fun and silly reading rewards.”

One hundred percent of Read-A-Thon funds go directly back into the school, benefiting every student on campus. Besides funding campus improvements, the money helps provide teacher and staff appreciations, student field trips, arts programming and school-wide experiences.

Community members and local businesses can participate through donations and sponsorships, with recognition opportunities available across signage, social media, press releases and school communications. To learn more and participate go to bhppto.org/readathon.
