Pedernales Electric Cooperative is accepting applications for its scholarship program. High school seniors who will be graduating this spring from public, private, or homeschooled education can apply online through February 25. PEC plans to award up to $100,000 in scholarships this year, which recipients can use for tuition at the college, university, technical or trade school of their choice.
Marble Falls High School graduate Henry Vanicek received a PEC scholarship in 2025 and was able to apply it to his tuition at Rice University.
“PEC’s scholarship has not only helped support my educational journey, it has also inspired me to become a change-maker for my community,” Vanicek said.
Vanicek is working on a degree in entomology and a career in research to better understand how to support ecologically beneficial insect populations in rapidly changing ecosystems.
Since 1999, PEC has provided more than $1.6 million in scholarships to 900 students.
In addition to providing scholarships, PEC offers a variety of free youth education programs, including school visits and career exploration, recognition for student athletes, PEC’s Youth Tour trip to learn about government in action, and online learning materials to help students access career information and learn how to build resumes.
