Senior Paul Gumbert-Mendoza crossed 2,000 career points this past week as the Texans defeated both Bandera and Fredericksburg to stay undefeated in district play.

In the Texans 89-51 win over the Bandera Bulldogs, Gumbert-Mendoza tied a career high, scoring 39 points for Wimberley as Wimberley notched their sixth straight win.

Junior Reece Wortham was second in scoring with 19 points while junior Nathan Baker led the team in rebounds with 10.

The Texans rounded out their week on the road Friday night against the rival Battlin’ Billies of Fredericksburg.

Once again it was another dominant win for the Texans, winning 74-33 over the Hill Country rivals with Wimberley outscoring Fredericksburg 43-15 in the first half before rolling into the win.

The Texans will be back home this week against New Braunfels Long Creek before this weekend’s much anticipated showdown with the Davenport Wolves.

The Wolves enter the week with an 18-8 overall and a 3-0 district record identical to the Texans. Wimberley enters the week in the best scoring offense in district, averaging 75 points in district play compared to Davenport’s 58.6 points per game. The Texans also claim the best scoring defense, holding district opponents to an average of 38.3 points per game while the Wolves boast the second best scoring defense, holding district opponents to an average of 46 points per game.

The winner between Davenport and Wimberley will have a leg up in the District 26 Class 4A title race.

Tip-off for Wimberley and Long Creek is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Texan Gym while tip-off for Wimberley and Davenport is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday at Davenport High School.
