Candidates running for federal, state and county offices in the upcoming Democratic Primary will participate in a major forum in Wimberley on Sunday, February 1.
“People often ask, ‘who should I vote for—I don’t know these candidates,’” said event coordinator Sandy Pedrazas. “Well, here’s your chance because you’ll meet and hear them at the forum.”
The Wimberley Democrats, in cooperation with all other Hays County Democratic clubs, will host the county-wide event, which will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Wimberley Community Center, 14068 RR 12, in Wimberley.
“Thirty-seven candidates for everything from justice of the peace to the Texas Lieutenant Governor as well as Attorney General and the U.S. Congress will speak,” Pedrazas said.
Also meeting on the forum’s stage will be candidates for Texas State Representative, Hays County Judge, County Clerk, County Treasurer, District Attorney, County Commissioner, and various judgeships at the county, district and state levels.
“We’re calling it the Democratic Deep Dive,” Pedrazas said. “Candidates will be vetted by an all-star panel of moderators to help voters decide who to vote for in the Democratic Primary in March.”
Asking the candidates questions, will be moderators Rebecca Minnick, Andrew Weber and Alex Villalobos. Jeff Rasco will serve as emcee.
“We are expecting a rich discussion among the candidates and moderators,” Pedrazas said. “The audience will also be able to ask questions of the candidates, as well as meet them before and after the program.” The program begins at 2 p.m., but candidates will be available at 1:15 p.m. to meet personally with individual voters, as well as after the program.
“The primary is such an important election and it’s coming up soon,” Pedrazas said. “And because some of the races will go uncontested by the Republicans in the fall, the winner of the Democratic Primary will essentially be the overall winner in those races.”
The primary election is scheduled for March 3, with early voting beginning February 17. The general election will take place in November.
The Hill Country Honeys, an Americana music band well known in the Wimberley area, will perform. Light refreshments will be served.
Programs for the Wimberley forum will include information about each candidate, and the forum will be available on Zoom and recorded for later viewing. To learn more, contact [email protected].
