Texans continue their domination in non-district

The Texans continued their dominance through non-district play, adding a couple more victories to their overall record with wins over Poth and Giddings.

Wimberley improves to 22-2 overall and is ranked 16th in the state.

After a long home stretch, the Texans were back on the road last Tuesday when Wimberley took on the Poth Pirates.

Wimberley dominated the Pirates en route to a 75-43 win.

Junior Nathan Baker led the team in scoring with 22 points followed by senior Paul Gumbert-Mendoza with 18 points. Junior Reece Wortham was third in scoring with 11 points followed by Micah Birdsong with 10 points.

Baker led the team in rebounds with nine followed by Gumbert-Mendoza with eight. Wortham led the team in assists with four.

The Texans closed out the week on the road to battle the Giddings Buffaloes. It was another win for Wimberley as the Texans defeated the Buffaloes 74-44.

Wortham led the team in scoring with a game high 28 points followed by Gumbert-Mendoza with 23 points. Baker was third in scoring with 10 points.

Gumbert-Mendoza led the team in rebounds with seven and assists with five. Birdsong was second in rebounding with six.

The Texans will play their final nondistrict game Tuesday against Gonzales at home before starting district play Friday on the road against rival Canyon Lake.

Wimberley enters district play with the best overall record and the highest scoring offense with 1,658 total points, averaging 69.0 points per game.

Both games start at 6:30 p.m.
