Polar Bear Plunge & 5K
Kick off 2026 with fitness, fun and a community tradition with the annual Polar Bear Plunge and 5K. Participants run a scenic 5K through Blue Hole before taking a bold plunge into the cold, clear waters of Cypress Creek. Whether racing in the 5K or jumping straight into the creek, the event is a memorable way to drive off the winter doldrums and welcome the year ahead. Registration is not required for plunge-only participants. Registration includes an event t-shirt, drink tickets for a hot beverage and a swag bag.
At Blue Hole Regional Park, 333 Blue Hole Ln., Wimberley. The cost is $35 per person for regular registration; $45 per person the day of the event. Plunge-only participants do not need a ticket.
Event check-In is 9:15 a.m. Stretching and warmup is at 9:30. The 5K begins at 10 a.m. and the Polar Bear Plunge starts at 11 a.m. The awards ceremony is at 11:30 and the event ends at 12:30 p.m. Bring a towel, a change of clothes, and plenty of New Year’s spirit. Community Workout hosted by Red Oak Strength and Joy Lab Fit Co., will take place from 9 a.m. to noon, at Oak Park, 109 Oak Dr. Open to all ages and fitness levels, the workout is free.
Guided Hike for January. Each month Wimberley Parks and Rec staff lead an easy hike with a theme – from riparian systems, to learning about trees, to covering the history of our parks – that are ADA-accessible, suitable for all ages and free.
