New Year’s Eve ball drop on the Square

Downtown Wimberley will host a New Year’s Eve ball drop and street party on Dec. 31, featuring a full day of live music and a family-friendly countdown at 7 p.m.

Organizers are encouraging residents and visitors to spend the day in the heart of downtown, with live performances scheduled from late morning through the evening. The celebration will include a ball drop designed for families who want to ring in the new year earlier in the night.

According to event information, the ball will rise approximately 130 to 150 feet above downtown and will be visible from several areas around town. The community countdown is set for 7 p.m. sharp.

Restaurants and bars in the downtown area are expected to participate with a coordinated toast, allowing people to watch and celebrate from their preferred locations. KWVH Wimberley Valley Radio plans to live-stream from downtown throughout the day.

The live music lineup for Dec. 31 includes Laura and Marvin Bottera from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Ace Pepper from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., Twisted Motion at 5:30 p.m. and Hill Country Honeys from 6 to 8 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and plan to stroll between downtown shops and restaurants. Light-up toys will be available for purchase for children.

Public parking is available at Oak Park, the Wimberley Community Center and designated public lots throughout downtown. To support pedestrian safety, parking and driving around the Square will be limited beginning at 5 p.m. Organizers said there are no road closures planned, but drivers should expect slower vehicle movement and increased foot traffic as the event transitions into evening festivities.
