Wimberley ISD featured in statewide publication

Wimberley Independent School District is one of 11 Texas school districts and one education service center that are being recognized for their outstanding programs in the release of Texas School Business magazine’s 19th Annual Bragging Rights 2025-26 special issue. Bragging Rights, which calls for nominations and is published every December, recognizes school districts that have implemented programs that are bettering the lives of Texas’ students, schools and communities.

Wimberley ISD’s featured program is the 18-plus program’s Schoolyard Farms and Schoolyard Dogs collaboration. “Like I told the publication, I believe the Schoolyard Farms and Schoolyard Dogs initiatives are the epitome of excellence in the world of public school partnerships,” says WISD Superintendent Dr. Greg Bonewald. “When students, parents and teachers are empowered to be innovative and are encouraged to create real-world learning opportunities that extend beyond the walls of the schools, the results can be magical.”

WISD’s 18-plus program exists to serve as a bridge for special education students who have met graduation credit requirements but still need support transitioning to adult life. Through partnerships with Schoolyard Dogs, and with the Schoolyard Farms project that exists at the Scudder campus, these students gain valuable hands-on skills and experience that will serve them in the future. “This year, nominations for outstanding programs poured in from every corner of the state, and each one deserves to be noticed,” says Texas School Business Editorial Director Dacia Rivers. “It’s our hope that the 12 programs we chose inspire others to follow in their footsteps. The mission of Texas School Business is to share the good news happening in Texas public schools, and there’s never a shortage of news-worthy programs for us to cover.”

For 72 years, Texas School Business has served as the news magazine for public education in Texas. Since 2014, it has been produced by the Texas Association of School Administrators tasanet.org. To read the 19th Annual Bragging Rights issue online, visit texasschoolbusiness.com.
