With quiet grace, more than two million volunteers will place a living balsam-branch wreath on the graves of veterans as, one by one, their names are spoken aloud. The ceremony acknowledges, validates and honors the service of veterans as part of the annual National Wreaths Across America Day, December 13. The organization encourages community members to participate by volunteering locally or sponsoring a wreath for an American veteran.
Wreaths purchased through The Texas Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Jacob’s Well Chapter, will be placed at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin, 909 Navasota Street. After a brief ceremony beginning at 11 a.m., the wreaths will be placed and names will be called aloud. Friends, family and other citizens are invited to participate. It is customary for Governor Abbott to attend and place the first wreath.
In 2024, over three million wreaths, sponsored by friends, families and strangers were placed on headstones at 4,909 participating cemeteries in all 50 states, at sea and abroad.
