Texans defeat Buda Johnson, head to Aransas Pass Tourney

The No. 10 ranked Texans closed out Thanksgiving Week with a win over Hays County neighbor Buda Johnson, beating the Jaguars 53-44.

Wimberley improves to 3-1 for the season with wins over Devine and St. Andrew’s and their lone loss coming against 5A school Corpus Christi Ray by one point.

Paul Gumbert-Mendoza led the Texans in scoring with 20 points followed by junior Reece Wortham with 10 points. Junior Nathan Baker and senior Holden Crawford were third in scoring with seven points each.

Senior Micah Birdsong led the team in rebounding with seven, followed by junior Harley Peacock, Baker and Gumbert- Mendoza with five each. Wortham led the team in assists with four.

In the Texans’ loss to Corpus Christi Ray, Gumbert-Mendoza led the team in scoring with 25 points followed by Wortham with 17.

Wimberley hosted Cuero on Tuesday before playing in their first tournament of the season at the Aransas Pass Tourney Thursday through Saturday. The Texans are scheduled to play Gainesville and Tuloso-Midway on Thursday, then Burleson and Orange Grove on Friday.
