I know we probably all do these things at one time or another. It’s like you can’t help glancing toward people’s windows when it is dark outside and their curtains are open. It is just curiosity, not a Peeping Tom situation.
The same thing seems to happen when we are grocery shopping. Some people take a peek at other people’s grocery carts or glance when they are unloading their carts at check-out. I’ll admit I sometimes do that. I find myself comparing what I bought with what other people are purchasing. Why are there so many healthy shoppers? Usually I feel guilty about what is in my cart. I tell myself that after many weeks of healthy shopping, I am just out of snacks, so my cart is filled with cookies, chips and ice cream. When people glance at my cart, I have used the excuse that I’m shopping for my neighbor, but I’m tired of them rolling their eyes when they hear me say that over and over. I also can’t use that excuse if the person eyeing my cart is my neighbor. I have tried to put my snacks on the bottom of my cart and add a large multi-roll package of toilet paper on top. But I’ve learned that it doesn’t work well with my potato chips.
And it’s not like I don’t eat healthy food. It’s just that healthy food seems to last longer at my house. Well, except the healthy food that expires before I get around to eating it.
So what I’m trying to say is that you can’t judge a person by looking at their one shopping cart. Sometimes I think that I should take a photo of my shopping cart when it is filled with healthy choices. If someone looks at my snack laden cart and then at me, I can pull out the photo and show them the healthy food I bought the other day. Or the other week. Or, maybe use a photo of someone else’s healthy shopping cart. I just hope I don’t see the same people tomorrow.
