Texans come in second at state championship

The Texan volleyball team’s historic season came to an end last Friday as the Wimberley fell to the No. 1 ranked team in the state, the Eagle Mountain Knights 3-1 [25-15, 25-20, 22-25, 25-18] in the 4A Division II State Championship game.

Wimberley, who set the program record for most wins in a single season, finishes the season with a 466 overall record having qualified for the state championship game for the tenth time in program history.

Freshman Trinity Laney led the team in kills with 14 followed by senior Lili Sandoval with 12. Senior Mariah McCoy was third in kills with seven. The duo of seniors Carson Peoples and Skylar Herring powered the Texans offense with 41 combined assists with Peoples leading the team with 21 followed by Herring with 20.

On defense, senior Ashton Shipman led the team in digs with 19. Peoples was second with eight digs followed by Laney with seven.

Senior Cameron Thames led the team in blocks with three.
