Food bank seeks donations for Thanksgiving meals

The Hays County Food Bank has officially kicked off its 19th Annual Turkeys Tackling Hunger campaign, inviting the community to help bring more than 1,500 families together for a traditional holiday meal this season.

Each Holiday Meal Kit includes a turkey and all the trimmings needed for a full holiday feast — giving families the opportunity to gather, celebrate, and share in the warmth of the season. This long-standing program is funded entirely through community donations and powered by generous sponsors, including Night Hawk Frozen Foods, Little Guys Movers, H-E-B, Jane Hughson, Spectrum Business, and the Central Texas Food Bank.

“Turkeys Tackling Hunger is one of our most beloved community traditions,” said Lisa Young, Executive Director of the Hays County Food Bank. “It’s more than just a meal — it’s about bringing people together and making sure every family in Hays County has the chance to celebrate the holidays with dignity and joy.”

With rising food costs and increasing need, the food bank is calling on the community for additional support this year. Thanks to the buying power of the food bank, every dollar goes further — and just $60 provides a complete Thanksgiving meal for one Hays County family.

As a token of appreciation, donors who sponsor a meal with a $60 gift will receive a free Turkeys Tackling Hunger t-shirt. Those wishing to make a difference can give securely online at www.haysfoodbank. org/give.

Community members are also encouraged to volunteer to help distribute turkeys or support the food bank’s other essential programs by signing up at haysfoodbank. org/volunteer.

Together, we can ensure that every family in Hays County has a reason to gather, give thanks, and celebrate this holiday season.
