Texans shut out Carrizo Springs in Bi-District

The road to AT&T Stadium has started and the Texans quest for a state championship began in dominating fashion.

The Code Red defense forced four turnovers while the Texan offense pummeled the Carrizo Springs Wildcats for a 59-0 win in the Bi-District championship.

The Texans improve to 7-4 for the season while the Wildcats finish their season with a 4-7 overall record.

After forcing Carrizo Springs to punt on their first drive, the Texans drove down the field before being put on the one-yard line by a 27-yard run by junior running back Josh Belanger.

Senior running back Maverick Jacobs punched it in for a one-yard touchdown. Following an extra point kick from junior Beau Holeman, the Texans led 7-0.

The Texans got the ball back on the Wildcats 26-yard line after Carrizo Springs fumble the kickoff return following the touchdown.

Wimberley later scored on a 13-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Jackson Parker to senior wide receiver Christian Sansalone, extending the lead to 14-0.

Carrizo Springs looked to answer after being down two-possesions but the vaunted Code Red defense had other plans. The Wildcats drove down to inside WImberley territory only for Jacobs to force a fumble on the option play, allowing the Texans to recover.

The Wildcats recovered by jumping on a loose ball on the Texans fumble attempt.

Doing what the Code Red defense does best, the Texans found a way to get the ball back. Freshman Sebastian Shelor made the interception for the Texans on third down as Wimberley was back in buirsnnes with the ball on the Wildcat 39-yard line.

Later in the second quarter, the Texans struck again. Jacobs scored his second rushing touchdown of the night, running for a 26-yard touchdown, putting Wimberley up 21-0.

The Texans scored again in the second quarter after the Code Red defense forced a three-and-out.

Sophomore running back Wesley Milam scored on a five-yard touchdown, putting Wimberley up 28-0.

Wimberley continued to strike while the iron was hot when Parker hit Sansalone for a 37-yard pass to put the Texans at the three-yard line. Parker later found junior Reid Wood for a five-yard touchdown pass, extending the lead to 35-0 with 40 seconds remaining in the second quarter. On the first drive of the third quarter for the Texans, the Wimberley offense continued to pour it on. Parker hit sophomore Bennett German for a 44-yard touchdown pass on the screen play as the lead was pushed to 42-0.

With the lead firmly in hand, the Texans put in the second team to let them have some shine in the playoff spotlight.

Junior running back Tyler Gonce continued the offensive dominance, scoring on a 12-yard touchdown run, making it a 49-0 lead.

In the fourth quarter, Holeman booted a 30-yard field goal before Quay Salinas returned the ball back 42 yards for the touchdown for the final score of the game.

Parker passed for 199 yards and three touchdowns with Sansalone leading the way with three catches for 66 yards and one touchdown. Junior Colt Wright was second with three catches for 48 yards and German caught one pass for 44 yards and one touchdown.

Gonce led the team in rushing with 41 yards on 10 carries and one touchdown while Jacobs was second with seven carries for 39 yards and two touchdowns. Milam rushed for 22 yards and fourth carries and one touchdown.

Wimberley advances to the Area round where the Texans will face the Robstown Cotton Pickers. Robstown enters the game with a 7-4 overall record, having placed fourth in district. Robstown defeated district
