Kick off the New Year with energy, excitement and a little chill at Blue Hole Regional Park’s annual Polar Bear Plunge & 5K, taking place January 3, 2026. The winter tradition invites participants to run through the scenic trails of Blue Hole before taking a daring dive into the cold, clear waters of Cypress Creek.

Hosted by the City of Wimberley Parks and Recreation Department, the event blends fitness, fun and community spirit to help participants start 2026 on a refreshing note. Whether participants are racing in the 5K or jumping straight into the creek, it’s an unforgettable way to welcome the year ahead.

Event highlights are a 5K Fun Run on the Hike and Bike Trail that winds through Blue Hole Regional Park followed by a Polar Bear Plunge into the icy waters of Cypress Creek.

Registration includes an event t-shirt, drink tickets for a hot beverage and a swag bag. Stick around after the race for awards and festivities at the Community Celebration.

The event begins Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 9:15 a.m. and continues through 12:30 p.m. at Blue Hole Regional Park, 333 Blue Hole Ln., in Wimberley, TX.

The cost is $30 per person for early birds, November 1 to 15. After November 15, regular registration is $35 per person and the cost to participate is $45 per person on the day of the event. Plunge-only participants do not need a ticket.

The event check-in is 9:15 a.m., stretching and warmup takes place at 9:30 and the 5K begins at 10. The awards ceremony is at 11:30 a.m. Participants should bring a towel, a change of clothes and the spirit of the New Year.

Registration opens November 1 and spots fill quickly. For registration and event updates, visit wimberleyparksandrec. com.
