Double J Ranch Golf Club Classic signals new era for Woodcreek links

The Double J Ranch Golf Club sank a holein- one with its inaugural Country Music Golf Classic, October 25. The sold-out event, brought more than 300 golfers and golf enthusiasts to the newly remodeled 18 hole golf course in Woodcreek for barbecue, live music and libations. Insólito Tequila was the event’s main sponsor.

The event kicked off on October 24 with the unveiling of a Wimberley Arts.org “Bootiful Boot” and plaque dedicated to Stanley J. and Edna Barnes. The ceremony launched the Stanley J. & Edna Barnes Memorial Scholarship Fund which provides scholarships for Wimberley High School golfers and graduates heading to trade school or college.

New owners Joe and Jen Gambino, purchased the course in April 2023. It was previously known as Quicksand at Woodcreek Golf Club. The new owners demolished the old club- house built in 1973 and built a new 6,000 square foot clubhouse and event center that is nearing completion.

The ambitious new owners “stripped every green and T-box, replanting them with Platinum TE Paspalum, an environmentally sustainable turfgrass, and tore up every bunker and sand trap and relined them with white sand,” said Joe, who is himself an avid golfer.

Golfers experienced with the green will notice that the Gambinos also flipped the course. “The previous hole ten is now hole 1; the previous hole one is now hole 11. Now golfers will finish a round on what was hole 8 where a new water feature has been installed,” Joe said. In addition to those changes, the parking lot has been resurfaced.
