It was a firework show in the final game at Texan Stadium for the 2025 season as Wimberley defeated the Smithsville Tigers 84-26.
The Texans 84 points was the most points scored in a single game since 2020 as Wimberley improved to 6-3 for the season and 4-1 in district play with one game remaining in the season. Smithville falls to 0-9 overall and 0-5 in district play.
The Texans struck first as quarterback Jackson Parker hit wide receiver Christian Sandsalone for a 35yard touchdown pass, putting Wimberley up 7-0 following the extra point kick from Joel Carrasco.
Wimberley scored again on their next drive as senior running back Maverick Jacobs bulldozed his way in for a five-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 14-0.
Smithville answered back with a 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, cutting Wimberley’s lead to 14-7.
Though the Tigers seemingly swung the momentum on their side, the Texans special teams unit swung the pendulum back in their favor.
On the ensuing kickoff, junior Micah Espinoza caught the ball at the Texan 32yard line on the pooch kick and returned the ball 67 yards back for the touchdown, extending the lead to 21-7.
The Tigers answered back with a touchdown drive of their own, scoring on a 49-yard touchdown run as Smithville again cut the lead down to one possession at 21-14.
Needing a score going into the second quarter, the Texans look to keep the offensive shootout going.
Driving down to the Smithville 19-yard line, sophomore running back Wesley Milam appeared to be brought down in the pile by several Tiger tacklers. However, Milam never went down and kept his legs moving, allowing himself to score the touchdown and put Wimberley up 28-14.
After the Code Red defense forced a Smithville punt, the Texans looked to give themselves some breathing room with the ball back in their possesion. The next drive ended with Jackson finding Espinoza on the screen pass before going up field for a 59-yard touchdown pass. After Holeman’s extra point kick, Wimberley led 35-14.
On the Tigers next drive, junior Basil Ivicic made the interception, allowing the Texans a chance to score again. Wimberley took advantage of the turnover as Jackson hit junior wide receiver Colt Wright for a 11-yard touchdown pass, extending the lead to 42-14.
Smithville quickly answered with a 67yard touchdown run, making it a 42-20 game.
But Wimberley’s special teams unit struck again. On the ensuing kickoff, junior Aiden Patek caught the ball at the Texan 16yard yard line before returning the ball 84 yards for the touchdown.
Smithville took advantage of a muff punt by the Texans before scoring on a six-yard touchdown run but didn’t convert on the two-point conversion, making it a 49-26 game.
But just before halftime, the Texans answered again, junior running back Josh Belanger scored on a six-yard touchdown run to extend the lead 56-26 before halftime.
On Wimberley’s first drive of the second half, the Texans struck again. Milam scored on a 10yard touchdown run, makingita63-26game.
For the Texans next score, it was the special teams making the statement once more. On the ensuing Smithville punt, the snap went over the head of the punter and landed in the endzone. Junior Tyler Gonce was able to jump on the punt in the endzone for the touchdown, making it a 70-26 lead.
On the next drive, the Texans blocked the punt to give Wimberley the ball at the Smithville 27-yard line.
Sophomore Madden Wharton scored on a 10-yard touchdown run, giving the Texans a 77-26 lead.
Belanger scored the final touchdown for the Texans, making the score 84-26.
Parker passed for 230 yards and three touchdowns with Espinoza leading the way with four catches for 113 yards and one touchdown. Sansalone was second with one catch for 35 yards and one touchdown.
Milam led the way for the rushing attack with six carries for 49 yards and two touchdowns followed by Belanger with five carries for 43 yards and two touchdowns. Wharton was third in rushing with three carries for 33 yards.
The Texans close out the season on the road against the Lago Vista Vikings. A win for Wimberley will clinch a share of the District 13 title. Lago Vista is coming off a 24-14 win over Geronimino Navarro to keep their
