The march for a second consecutive title started in good fashion for the Texans as Wimberley swept Manor New Tech 3-0 [25-10, 25-13, 25-10]. Wimberley improves their overall record to 42-5 and New Tech concludes their season with a 20-12 overall record. Senior Lilli Sandoval dominated at the net for the Texans, leading the team in kills with 15. Sandoval also led the team in aces with four. Freshman Trinity Laney was second in kills with nine followed by senior Mariah McCoy with eight and junior Skylar Mears with five. The combination of seniors Skylar Herring and Carson Peoples continued to power the Texan offense with both seniors leading the team in assists. Herring led the team with 20 assists and Peoples was second with 14 assists.
On defense, senior Ashton Shipman held strong in the back line with six digs followed by Sandoval with five and Laney with five. The Texans advance to the Area round of the playoffs where they face-off with former district rival Navarro.
The Panthers enter the playoff game with a 22-18 overall record, having finished second behind La Vernia. In the first round of the playoffs, Navarro defeated Carrizo Springs 3-0 [25-8. 25-10. 25-14]. Tip-off for Wimberley- Navarro is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Smithson Valley High School before press time.
