Tickets on sale now for Texas Performing Arts production of “The Sound of Music”

The hills of Central Texas will be alive with The Sound of Music as the classic Broadway show takes the Bass Concert Hall stage in Austin in February 2026.

Honoring the 65th anniversary of the classic musical’s original debut, this critically-acclaimed North American tour will come to Bass Concert Hall February 3 to 8, 2026. The Sound of Music tells the romantic and beloved story of Maria and the von Trapp family as they lift each other up in a time of darkness to give each other new life, love and music. The musical features an unforgettable Ton, Grammy and Award-winning Best Score, including memorable numbers such as “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Me,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “Edelweiss” and “The Sound of Music.” The score includes music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and a book by Howard Lindsay and Russell Crouse, as suggested by “The Trapp Family Singers,” written by Maria Augusta Trapp. The Oscar-winning film version of The Sound of Music – which continues to be one of the most successful movie musicals of all time – celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2025.

According to the touring company’s director, Jack O’Brien, the current production features parts of the original stage concepts that have never before made it to the stage. “A few years ago, I was part of a group of collaborative artists who, almost inadvertently, stumbled on original conceptions for the stage mounting of The Sound of Music that had never found their way into production,” O’Brien said. “We felt as if we were awakening Sleeping Beauty herself, and the results exposed a version of this classic virtually unknown before, and yet more dramatic, more detailed, more rapturous and more touching than any we had experienced.”

O’Brien and company felt eager to bring this version of the show to the stage to share with today’s audiences. “It is with extreme enthusiasm and a keen sense of anticipation those same artists once more return to complete the work we began and give this most beloved of all musicals the creative facelift it deserves,” O’Brien said. “We truly believe the original authors would be thrilled. And we believe you will be, too.”

Tickets for the February 2026 production start at $42 and are on sale now via TexasPerformingArts. org and BroadwayinAustin. com, by phone at 512-471-1444 or from the Texas Performing Arts ticket office at Bass Concert Hall. The show will run February 3 to 8, Tuesday through Thursday at 7:30 p.m.; Friday at 8 p.m.; Saturday at 2 and 8 p.m.; and Sunday at 1 and 6:30 p.m.
