The Wimberley Texans Varsity Girls Cross Country team is heading to the UIL State Championships after qualifying with a fourth-place finish at the Region 4 meet last week in Corpus Christi.
Despite a hot and muggy morning at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, sophomore Corina Joyce led the Texans, placing second overall with a time of 11:46. Joyce’s teammates also demonstrated late-season form in the two-mile race, contributing to the Texans success with a mix of youth and veteran experience.
Freshman Avery Wymore finished 25th with a time of 12:36, and her sister, freshman Abigail Wymore, finished 34th with a time of 12:49. Freshman Adriana Burnette placed 60th with her time of 13:35. Senior Ava Arellano finished 63rd with a time of 13:39, and senior Whitlee Leonard was 68th with a time of 13:45. Junior Kate Sharp finished 73rd with her time of 13:49.
The state meet will be held Saturday, Nov. 1, at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. The team is led by head coach Lacey Lambert and assistant coach Eric Nichols.
