Appropriate for Wimberley’s 25th birthday, artifacts from the city’s first mayor, Linda Hewlett, who served from 2000 to 2002, can now be seen at the Wimberley Village Library.
On hand to receive the items were Reference Librarian, Linda Eagleton and Wimberley’s current Mayor, Jim Chiles. Last week Hewlett donated mementos from her term in office that included scrapbooks, photo albums, a replica of the city seal, the first key to the city, her gavel and other items. As visitors browse through the memorabilia, they are invited to write down comments, memories and thoughts about Wimberley’s incorporation that led to the election of it’s first mayor and city council.
The library and the Wimberley Institute of Cultures and Museum are in preliminary talks about preserving the historical artifacts.
Visitors will be able to view the items displayed in the nonfiction area near the library’s main entrance during regular operating hours.
