Texans winning streak hits 19

The Texans extended their 19-game winning streak this week with a pair of district wins over New Braunfels Long Creek and state-ranked Davenport.

Wimberley improves their overall record to 33-5 overall and 2-0 in district play.

The Texans started their week at home, hosting district newcomer New Braunfels Long Creek Dragons.

It was a complete sweep for the Texans as Wimberley defeated Long Creek 3-0 [25-7, 25-12, 25-7].

Freshman Trinity Laney led the team in kills with 12 followed by senior Lilli Sandoval with 10. Junior Jillian Abel and senior Cameron Thames were tied for third in kills with five each.

Senior Skylar Herring led the team in assists with 14 followed by senior Carson Peoples with nine.

On defense, Herring and senior Ashton Shipman led the team in digs with seven each followed by Peoples with six. Laney and Sandoval were tied for fourth with five digs. Senior Mariah McCoy led the team in blocks with two.

Wimberley closed out the week on the road against their district rivals in the No. 17 ranked Davenport Wolves.

Despite dropping the first set, the Texans rallied to beat the Wolves 3-1 [20-25, 25-14, 2517, 25-17].

Laney again led the team in kills with 20 followed by Sandoval with 10. Thames was third in kills with six. Herring led the team in assists with 19 followed by Peoples with 17.

On defense, Laney led the team in digs with 23 to complete the double-double. Sandoval also completed a double-double with 21 digs. Herring was third in digs with 18 followed by Shipman with 13. Peoples was the fifth Texan player with digs in the double figures with 10.

Abel led the team in blocks with five followed by Thames with three.

Wimberley will be back on the road Tuesday against Fredericksburg before returning home Friday against Bandera.
