Beethoven’s Third Symphony, which premiered in 1804, redefined what a symphony could be. Not merely entertainment, a sym- phony could be a journey through struggle, sorrow, humor and exultant triumph.

The word “Eroica,’” which means “heroic” in Italian, became the title of a musical work that was heroic in the largest sense of the word, as it broke with tradition and brought in the new romantic spirit to composers who followed. Music began to become an expression ofthecomposer’s personality and life.
Composed in four movements, the “Eroica” Symphony portrays the heroism, humanity and hope that continues to resonate with every generation.
The concert will also feature the “Invercargill March,” one of the most beloved marches in the brass and wind band repertoire. Written for a contest in Invercargill, on the southernmost tip of New Zealand, the march with its rousing melodies, bold harmonies and infectious energy has become a staple at parades, military ceremonies, and band concerts around the world.
The HCCB is directed by Dr. Manuel Arambula, and the concerts are family- friendly and free to all. Parents are encouraged to bring the entire family.
