Face to face with Texas authors

“History is who we are and why we are the way we are.” - David McCullough, American historian Texas history, not without its controversies, is the subject of a talk to be given by two well-known Wimberley citizens on October 1 at the Village Library.

Patrick Cox and DuAnne Redus will discuss books they’ve written exploring aspects of Texas history at Face to Face with Area Authors, an ongoing series featuring some of Wimberley’s rich trove of writers.

Cox, the founding editor of the Wimberley View, and later Associate Director of the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History, at the University of Texas at Austin, one of the nation’s premier research centers, has written several books about Southwestern historical and political figures and institutions.

Redus, who created the popular Maui Wowi coffee shop in Wimberley and helped establish Wimberley Valley Radio, has recently created a new, updated version of a popular book about the Texas frontier first published by her great great grandfather, who served as a cavalryman from 1866 to 1871.

Both Cox and Redus have dedicated many years to the life of Wimberley through its boards, projects and media.

The event, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., will take place in the Community Room at the Wimberley Village Library. It is free and open to to the public. Refreshments provided by Vino Sherpa.
